Lived experience. Professional expertise.
LOAPAC members are psychologists who live and work in the Autistic community. Our families, our clients, our every day is shaped by our country's attitudes towards the Autistic neurotype, disability, and civil rights. We aim to be at the coalface of Australia's disability rights revolution. We are passionately dedicated to changing the sad and sometimes harmful beliefs about Autistic people and about what it means to be Autistic. We do this informally in our personal lives and professionally as advocates, educators, and psychologists.
Why a League?
1. Because the Autistic community needs reliable information to protect people from unethical and/or non-affirming therapies and service providers.
2. Because there are many who wish to silence Autistic psychologists or co-opt our work. We need to collaborate, to support each other, and to work together with our Allistic allies.
3. Because we need to join together and educate funding bodies, service providers, and the public about the crucial role of Psychologists in the provision of affirming disability supports to Autistic people.
I acknowledge the Wurrundjiri Woyworung people as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land on which I live and work. I pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures, and to Elders past and present. I also acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the various lands on which LOAPAC members live, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who come to this website.
